Greetings Neighbors,
There’s no easy way to explain how it “works” to have a Farm where nothing is for sale, because it doesn’t “work” in any of the predictable ways. Instead, the whole project is built from one surprise after another. Cathryn and Allison stop by to help clean and organize the Farm kitchen one day. We sort table cloths for the Feast tables. Cathryn takes a pile home to sew extensions on them so that we will have 10 at 9’ long. Sofya comes to stay with her in-laws for a week and jumps into lambing season, becoming proficient at dipping navels and ear tagging. Dale stops by to assemble the Feast benches. Barb drops off tomato cheese pie on a day when morning chores last until 1pm. Thanks for breakfast, Barb! I email a list of folks with a request for Feast desserts and carpentry support—laying the final section of floor. Some say yes. Others, thankfully, know how to say no—whew! The dessert bakers begin looking through their recipes. The carpenters will meet at 9am tomorrow to finish the floor. If you’ve got it in you to help us with the post-construction cleanout, join us at 11am tomorrow 4/27 for barn cleaning! There’ll be a big pot of soup for lunch afterwards plus anything you bring along to share.
There will be a Gratitude Feast next Sunday because many neighbors are pulling in a common rhythm. It’s a remarkable thing to stand at the center of!
Gratitude Feast: Sunday 5/5 at 3:30 pm.
Everyone is welcome. There is no charge.
Attached is a 1/4 sheet to print and distribute if you’ve got neighbors or co-workers you’d like to invite:
Here’s the text of the invite:
Sand River Community Farm is an experiment in neighborly farming and feeding. All food from the Farm is offered as a gift, with no barrier to access. We invite people of all stripes to consider sustaining one another and the Farm. Here are some ideas:
1. Join us for the first Gratitude Feast of the season, a hearty meal of Farm food served family-style. Sunday May 5th at 3:30pm. Followed by an old-fashioned barn dance. Gratitude Feasts will be held the first Sundays of the month, May through October. The meal is not a potluck. Meat and vegetarian options. If you would like to contribute a dessert, contact Barb Donela at 518.339.4006.
2. Lend a hand at weekly Farm Frolics (community work days) every non-Feast Sunday 3-6pm. Frolic Supper at 6pm. Next Frolic: Sunday 4/28.
3. Sign up for our weekly Newsletter at sandrivercommunityfarm.org for updates and invitations to contribute to our quarterly Farm Budget Request. The work is 100% sustained by neighborly support. Email: sandrivercommunityfarm@gmail.com

Dear one,
That’s a great text. Makes the whole gig sound very grounded and ‘normal’!
