Budget Request Update
We are drenched in gratitude for the generosity of so many of our neighbors near and far who have kindly responded to our Summer Request; we can almost see the goal posts from here! As of this writing, we are 92% of the way to our modest $10, 400 objective. Every donation supports our mission to feed people who are hungry for any reason. Here’s a link to more info if you would care to donate:
Come Join us for our Sunday Gift Lunch!
Last week we fed a friendly crew staffing the fireworks tent, brave enough to venture over to our setup, who were pleasantly surprised by the salad, soup and corn bread lunch we shared. You can be brave too; you’re welcome to join us this Sunday, 1pm at the Keeseville Community Garden, between the hardware store and the bank. Look for our sign, tent and tables!
And then Frolic with us!
It's no surprise that the gardens are exploding in this summer weather. It's also no surprise that we could use your help with this abundance! We have beets, peas, fennel, basil, a variety of lettuce, and more. Would you please consider coming to the Frolic on Sunday at 3pm, to add your charming presence to our diligent crew? Outside work will include pruning and trellising tomatoes with Adam and Doliah, and harvesting greens for salad. Tasks inside the kitchen will include shelling fresh peas, and a garlic scapes pickling session with Cathryn. It would also be terrific if you can plan to collect some produce for distribution to neighbors as well.
If you need transportation, just come to the Community Garden at 2:45 and we will provide a shuttle for folks who need it. We really appreciate your help and company, and the shuttle will return folks to the Community Garden after our Sunday Supper.
Speaking of that Sunday Supper…
Here’s Ben again, reminding you of the massive servings of delicious salad we’ll share, along with soup and corn bread made from last year’s harvest, as well as anything else you care to bring. If your Sunday is too busy for Frolic participation, you can still just arrive at 5:30 to join us for the meal and express your appreciation for our dedicated workers. All appetites are welcome!
Barn Choir to Reunite- and Recruit!
Over the past several months our beautiful barn has been silent except for recent Frolic meals and the echoes of the livestock grazing and calling outside in the pastures. Soon it will be filled again with the melodious sounds of our fabulous Barn Choir! Singers of all abilities are welcome this Monday July 7th at 6pm, and a simple potluck supper will follow afterwards. We are grateful to Stephan for his gift of time, teaching and leadership.
Still New - Thursday Garden Evenings
Do you remember how we distributed Hundreds of quarts of frozen Tomato soup this past winter at the Library? In order to continue that mission, we'll need regular helpers at the Farm this summer to tackle tasks not covered by our Sunday Frolics. Please join us Thursdays between 5 and 7pm to prune and trellis tomatoes, and weed and harvest the gardens that ensure a steady supply of food to anyone who is hungry for any reason. Bring plastic produce bags if you have them; there will be food to take home and distribute to neighbors. If your schedule prevents you from appearing on Thursdays or Sundays, please reach out by email to set up another time for a pruning lesson!
Speaking of our Wonderful Library…
Next Wednesday July 9 at 6pm, Dr. John McMahon from SUNY Plattsburgh will present “The US Constitution and How Government Works”, important information for all interested persons.
Free pocket-size copies of the Constitution will be available at the Library while supplies last. And here’s a reminder of the new Summer Hours-
Hope Kitchen News
Our friends at the Keeseville Hope Kitchen are celebrating the Fourth of July with their families, so there will be no meal this week. See you next week!
Livestock Update
Our little calf Henry has already started practicing with a halter a few times this week with Adam and Marion, in preparation for his career here as an ox, doing all sorts of heavy, helpful work. We have also been delighted to welcome his future partner, at this point unofficially named “too cute for words”!
We thank you for reading, participating, and all the ways you support our dear Farm. We’re so grateful to have you on our team!
Peace and Love,
Allison
