Damp Greetings Friends,
Congratulations on making it to Friday once again! Too much rain and cold for ya?
Please Collect a Soup Gift!
Well then, come get some of our Creamy Tomato Soup! Stop by the Keeseville Free Library this Saturday between 9am and 3pm for a frozen quart or two, to warm you and a neighbor in this season that still feels like soup weather. We are so grateful for our partnership with the awesome Keeseville Library that does so much good in our community, and also helps feed so many of our neighbors!
Farm News
Last Sunday’s Frolic was a soaking, amazing cascade of blessings!
A dozen or more dedicated volunteers blasted through the goals that were set for the day: planting corn and squash, and getting the tomato patch ready for seedlings in the days ahead.
The fields were soggy, clothing drenched, and yet there were loads of smiles at the dinner table enjoying conversation, creamy tomato soup, delicious casserole and the fabulous cheesy cornbread.
This weekend will be our seventh rainy weekend in a row.
But… over the past week, some of our sisters and brothers were living in parts of the country that experienced tornadoes seven days in a row. Maybe it’s just me, but if I had a choice I would prefer to deal with rain rather than tornadoes.
Where am I going with this? The word tornadoes rhymes with potatoes. And even though hundreds of pounds of potatoes can be overwhelming, that’s just what we have had staring us in the face for the past few weeks, with their little eyes starting to sprout.
Certainly these lovely veggies could be useful as compost, but they’d be much better used in casseroles or soups to feed our neighbors and volunteers! So earlier this week the call went out for a Thursday afternoon/evening Frolic, asking for folks to come help processing this remarkable yet daunting gift.
The response was beautiful!!
A fabulous crew materialized to peel, chop, and cook the mountains of produce, processing them for Potato Corn Chowder and Sweet Potato Casserole which will be served at future Town Lunches and Sunday Suppers at the Farm.
We are deeply grateful for the generous donations of the food, and the equally generous donations of time and good humor from our wonderful volunteers that will empower us to pass those blessings along to our hungry neighbors!
What else rhymes with Potato and Tornado?
Tomato!
Please come join us this Sunday May 25 at 2pm to help us transplant these fabulous (and plentiful) young tomato plants, looking for their “forever homes”!
If time and workforce allows, we also hope to build the mighty Tomato Trellises that will support these beauties as they grow. And remember the Delicious Sunday Supper at 5, please come one and all!
Keeseville Hope Kitchen
If you haven’t tried it yet, the Friday evening Community Supper from our friends at the Good Shepherd Nazarene Church at 124 Hill Street is a yummy expression of love for our community, served with love from 5 to 7pm.
This week’s dinner of Meatballs with Garlic Bread will be Take-out only, so perhaps you can poll your neighbors and collect several to deliver for those who have trouble getting out. Hope to see you!
An Invitation from the AuSable Valley Grange
Need a friend to talk to? The AuSable Valley Grange is hosting a discussion group called "For the Common Good". We are nonpartisan and welcoming to all, meeting every few weeks. We offer a safe space to share concerns and ideas arising from changes in our government and its programs. We hope to make a difference in our community with positive, common-sense and common-good projects that help our neighbors and raise awareness.
The next meeting is Tuesday, May 27th at 2pm at the Grange, 1749 Main St, Keeseville. No need to RSVP. If you have questions or would like to be added to the contact list, email avgrange973@gmail.com
Maizey is adorable even when she’s soaking wet, and she’s looking forward to barking her greeting to you as you arrive to help us, or just stop in to say Hi.

Love and Blessings to you All,
Allison
